Murphy Oil has discovered oil in the Hai Su Vang prospect in the Cuu Long basin offshore southern Vietnam.

Hai Su Vang-1X was drilled 40 miles offshore in Block 15-2/17, in 149 ft of water and to a total depth of 13,124 ft. The well delivered about 370 ft of net oil pay from two reservoirs.

Results are in-line with the pre-drill potential resource estimate of 170 MMboe to 430 MMboe, Murphy added. Analysis continues, with appraisal drilling planned at a future point.

Murphy Cuu Long Tay Oil operates the block with a 40% interest, in partnership with PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corp (35%) and SK Earthon (25%).

This was one of numerous prospects that Murphy had identified in the basin. The company plans to spud the Lac Da Hong-1X exploration well in offshore Block 15-1/05 later in the current quarter, targeting 65 MMboe to 135 MMboe.
