KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Petronas Carigali has delivered six new oil and gas discoveries across five blocks offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.
The successful wells were on the Gedombak prospect in Block SK306, Mirdanga in SK411 (in the Balingian province), Sinsing in SK313, Machinchang and Pangkin in SK301B, and Kalung Emas well in SK315 (in the West Luconia province).
Locations are on new and existing oil fields, with low levels of contaminants, the company said.
They were part of a domestic exploration drilling campaign that started in late 2022 leading that year to the large Nahara-1 oil discovery in Block SK306.
Petronas executive vice president and CEO of Upstream Datuk Adif Zulkifli said the results “show the still untapped exploration potential of Malaysia’s basins, waiting to be discovered by companies who are willing to adopt new and innovative ways.
“We hope these will provide the impetus for more companies to participate and invest in Malaysia’s Upstream sector, especially in the exploration front.”
Petronas Carigali has adopted a "clustered exploration" approach for mature geological provinces. Petronas vice president of exploration Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman said, “These discoveries are the result of our exploration teams’ willingness to challenge norms and defy long-standing dogmas.”
