DOHA, Qatar — QatarEnergy is bringing onboard TotalEnergies as its first international partner in the North Field East (NFE) expansion project offshore/onshore Qatar.
The $28.75-billion development, expected to start production before the end of 2025, will lift the country’s present LNG export capacity of 77 MMt/year to 110 MMt/year.
It will include carbon capture and sequestration measures to minimize the carbon footprint.
QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies will respectively hold 75% and 25% interests in a new joint venture company, which in turn will own 25% of the entire NFE project, including the four LNG trains with a combined nameplate LNG capacity of 32 MMt/year.
As part of the partner selection process, QatarEnergy said it has received offers for double the equity available. More partners will be admitted to the project once final terms have been agreed.
