FPSO produces first oil at Petrobras' offshore Jubarte field

Oct. 15, 2024
The Maria Quitéria FPSO has the capacity to produce up to 100,000 bbl/d of oil and process up to 5 MMcm of gas.

The Maria Quitéria platform ship produced its first oil today in the Jubarte field in the presalt in the Espírito Santo portion of the Campos Basin.

The unit has the capacity to produce up to 100,000 bbl/d of oil and process up to 5 MMcm of gas, and it will be connected to eight producing wells and eight injectors.

The Maria Quitéria FPSO had its entry early; its initial forecast was for 2025, according to the Strategic Planning 2024-2028. Petrobras is the sole holder of the production rights to the Jubarte field in the area known as Parque das Baleias.

Petrobras says the platform is of the FPSO type and is equipped with technologies to reduce emissions with more operational efficiency combined with a reduction of about 24% in operational emissions of greenhouse gases.

With 156 m high and 333 m long, the FPSO is installed in a water depth of 1,385 m. In addition, it will have the capacity to generate 100 MW of energy, which the company says is enough to supply a city of 230,000 inhabitants.

The Parque das Baleias area is formed by the Jubarte, Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, Pirambú and Mangangá fields. The first field, in Jubarte, was discovered in 2001. In 2019, Petrobras and the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) signed an agreement to extend the concession term until 2056 of the new unified Jubarte field. This enabled the implementation of the FPSO Maria Quitéria, the new production system of the Parque das Baleia integrated project, in addition to complementary projects in the area.

Currently, three other platforms are in operation at Parque das Baleias. With the entry into operation of Maria Quitéria, at full load, this unit will correspond to about 40% of the field's production.
