CABINDA, Angola -- Chevron Corp. subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd. began oil production from the Landana North reservoir in the Tombua-Landana in deepwater block 14 offshore Angola.

Tombua-Landana saw first oil on June 20, 2006, from the Landana North #1 subsea well that is tied back to the Benguela Belize-Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) compliant piled tower. This tieback to BBLT allows early production and will allow important reservoir information to be gathered

The Tombua-Landana development, recently approved by the Block 14 contractor group and the government of Angola, is Chevron's third operated deepwater development offshore Angola. The 46-well project lies 50 mi offshore in >1,200 ft water depth. The development will employ a compliant piled tower with one subsea center. Projected peak production from the completed development is 100,000 bbl/d by 2010.

Chevron's Angola assets are significant. According to John Watson, president of Chevron International Exploration and Production Co., "Tombua-Landana is among more than a dozen major capital projects the company is developing in the nation."

Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd. operates the block 14 contractor group, which comprises:
Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd., with 31% interest, Sonangol Pesquisa e Producao, SARL, with 20%, ENI Angola Exploration BV with 20%, Total E&P Angola with 20%, and GALP-Exploracao e Producao with the remaining 9%.
