YUZHNO-SAKHALINSKI, Russian Federation -- First gas has been produced from the Lunskoye-A (Lun-A) platform in the Lunskoye field off northeastern Sakhalin Island, according to Sakhalin Energy.
Gas came from the first two gas wells, which were completed last month. Production rates are being increased gradually, with the gas routed from Lun-A platform through the offshore multiphase pipelines to the onshore processing facility. From there the treated Lun-A gas is sent to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the south of Sakhalin via the Trans-Sakhalin gas pipeline.
All three Sakhalin II platforms now are onstream, and the Trans-Sakhalin pipeline system carries hydrocarbons from both Piltun-Astokhskoye and Lunskoye fields.
First gas from the Lunskoye field will be used for the final stages of commissioning at the LNG plant, substituting for the imported LNG, which was used previously, the company says.
