HONG KONG -- The PanYu (PY) 30-1 gas field has begun production, according to CNOOC. The field is currently producing about 30 MMcf/d of natural gas.

PY30-1 is in the Pearl River Mouth basin in the Eastern South China Sea, about 240 km (149 mi) southeast of Hong Kong.

CNOOC has implemented a joint development plan for PY30-1 and the HuiZhou (HZ) 21-1 oil and gas field. The PY/HZ project was divided into two phases. In Phase I the HZ21-1 field began production. PY 30-1's start-up successfully concludes the engineering work of the second phase, the company reports.

The development facilities include one integrated platform and three subsea pipelines. Natural gas from PY30-1 will be piped to an onshore gas processing terminal in Zhuhai and then supplied to the users after further processing.

Daily gas production from PY 30-1 will gradually increase to, and remain stable, at 93 MMcf this year. The field's peak production is expected to reach 60 MMcf/d.
