Cormorant Alpha platform shut down to investigate hydrocarbon appearance

Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. PJSC (TAQA) confirms that an indication of hydrocarbons in one leg of the Cormorant Alpha platform in the northern UK North Sea, caused a precautionary shut-down of the platform and associated pipelines.

ABU DHABI, UAE –Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. PJSC (TAQA) confirms that an indication of hydrocarbons in one leg of the Cormorant Alpha platform in the northern UK North Sea, caused a precautionary shut-down of the platform and associated pipelines.
Late yesterday afternoon an indication of hydrocarbons was found within one leg of the platform. The hydrocarbons are contained within the leg and none have been released to the ocean, says a TAQA report.
Production fromCormorant East field also was shut-in as a result of the Alpha platform infrastructure shut down.
All non-essential work on Cormorant Alpha has halted pending the results of a technical investigation team looking for the source of the hydrocarbons.
Cormorant Alpha handles approximately 90,000 b/d of crude oil. The installation is owned and operated by TAQA Bratani Ltd. and is located 232 mi (373 km) from Peterhead and 94 mi (151 km) from Lerwick.
