STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has started production from the Skuld field in the Norwegian Sea via a tieback to the Norne production ship.

Skuld comprises the Fossekall and Dompap discoveries, with combined recoverable reserves of 90 MMboe, of which 90% is oil and the remainder gas.

Main contractors for the development were Aker Solutions, Subsea 7, Aibel, National Oilwell, and Sumitomo.

“Skuld will have a very positive impact on Norne’s lifetime, which was estimated to 2021 without this addition,” said Anita Andersen Stenhaug, vice president for the Norne field. “We are envisioning production until 2030 at least, and there are opportunities for new activities involving exploration and further development in the Norne area. With the technological development projects we now have under way, we are envisioning opportunities for increased recovery from existing fields.”

Average increase in daily production from Skuld over the next two years will be half of what is currently produced through the Norne facilities.

Statoil estimates total investments in the new project at around $1.8 billion. This is the sixth tie-in to Norne since 2003, following Urd, Norne K, Alve, Norne M, and Marulk.
