DENMARK — Preparations continue to restart gas production through the redeveloped Tyra complex in the Danish North Sea, according to operator TotalEnergies E&P Denmark.

The currently estimated restart is March 31, although switch-on could come earlier in March depending on progress. Testing suggests a ramp-up to full technical capacity could take four months following the restart.

According to partner BlueNord, the program has included leak tests to ensure safety and integrity prior to gas-in and functional tests, while further testing continues of the machinery required for processing the gas.

The Tyra East Riser platform, Echo, has been declared "hot," with all pipelines connected and de-isolation of the pipelines is underway.

At Tyra West, the first wells have been unplugged and de-watered, with two wireline teams working in parallel on the Tyra West B and C platforms on unplugging of wells.

Michael Lindholm Pihl Larsen, technical project leader, TotalEnergies for the Tyra Redevelopment, said, “We have now completed more than 80% of the commissioning scope on Tyra East and tested all the key machines. We are now very close to the first gas deliveries.”

Currently there are more than 1,400 people offshore and more than 230 support staff onshore closing out the final activities.

Tyra and the surrounding fields, Svend, Roar, Harald, Valdemar and Tyra Southeast, were put into idle mode for the redevelopment. Work continues to re-power systems and reestablish communications and the network.

Once the process is completed and conditions deemed safe, all the fields will be gradually brought back online.

Tyra is Denmark's largest field and was processing and exporting more than 90% of gas produced in the Danish North Sea prior to its redevelopment. An overhaul was needed due to natural subsidence of the chalk reservoir following decades of production.

The redevelopment involved decommissioning and recycling of the old Tyra platforms; recycling and extending the current platform legs on six of the platforms by 13 m and supported by new topsides; and a new process module and a new accommodation platform.

Tyra II will deliver gas to Denmark and wider markets in Europe through the export pipelines to Nybro and Den Helder.
