RIO DE JANEIRO, BrazilPetrobras has marked 15 years of production from the presalt offshore Brazil this month by confirming plans to deploy 11 new production platforms in presalt fields by 2027.

Since last December, the company has started up the P-71 platform at the Itapu Field and the FPSO Almirante Barroso on the Búzios Field in the Santos Basin, and the company plans to start operating a third FPSO, Sepetiba, on the Mero Field by the end of this year.

Petrobrás’ Strategic Plan for 2023 to 2027 allocated $64 billion for E&P investments with 67% to be directed at presalt projects. By 2027, the company expects Brazil’s overall presalt production to reach 3.6 MMboe/d.

At the largest field, Búzios, cumulative production since startup five years ago hit 1 Bboe in June. In comparison, the Marlim Field in the Campos Basin took 11 years to deliver the same volume, and Tupi in the presalt Santos Basin took nine years.

Búzios has five FPSOs in operation with six more set to come online in the next four years: Almirante Tamandaré (2024); P-78 and P-79 (both 2025); P-80 and P-82 (both 2026), and P-83 (2027).

Mero, in the Libra Block in the Santos Basin, produces through the FPSO Pioneiro de Libra’s SPA 2 early production system and the 180,000-bbl/d capacity FPSO Guanabara, which is now operating at peak output.

FPSO Sepetiba will add up to 180,000 bbl/d, and two more FPSOs will come online at Mero by 2025.

In addition, presalt production continues to expand in the Campos Basin. The Jubarte Field will receive the 100,000 bbl/d from FPSO Maria Quitéria in 2025.

At the same time, Petrobrás is upgrading its mature assets in the Campos Basin, expanding production capacity. The Albacora Field, which completed 35 years of operation last year, will receive a new 120,000-bbl/d FPSO in 2027 as part of the Albacora Revitalization project, capable of operating in both the post-salt and presalt.
