Montara field production suspended following suspected leak

SINGAPORE — Jadestone Energy has had to once more shut down operations at the Montara Venture FPSO offshore northwest Australia. It follows an extended outage during 2022-23 to resolve leak in certain tanks.
On July 29, a gas alarm was triggered in ballast water tank 4S, indicating possible communication with one of the FPSO’s adjacent tanks.
Production from the Montara fields has been suspended, and Jadestone has notified Australia’s National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA).
Over the next few days, tank 4S will be emptied and cleaned followed by an inspection to identify the source of the communication between tanks to allow for needed repairs.
Jadestone President and CEO Paul Blakeley said, “While disappointing and frustrating to have to shut in Montara again, we will find and repair any additional defect while continuing with the overall planned program of inspection of the storage tanks on the FPSO. The safety of our personnel, as well as the long-term integrity of the asset, are paramount.”
