MUMBAI, India — Reliance Industries and partner bp have started gas/condensate production from the deepwater MJ Field in Block KG D6 offshore eastern India.
It follows the startup of the R-Cluster Field in December 2020 and the Satellite Cluster in April 2021 on the same block. All are connected to existing hub infrastructure on the block and will collectively deliver about 1 Bcf/d, once MJ reaches peak production.
This should represent about one-third of India’s current domestic gas production and cover about 15% of the country’s needs.
MJ, which was discovered in 2013 and sanctioned for development in 2019, is a HP/HT field in water depths of up to 1,200 m, 30 km from the onshore terminal at Gadimoga.
It will produce from eight wells, with projected peak gas of about 12 MMcf/d and 25,000 bbl/d of condensate.
The development includes a new FPSO, Ruby, which processes and separates the condensate, gas, water and impurities before sending the gas to shore for sale. Condensate is stored on the FPSO before being offloaded to shuttle tankers for delivery to Indian refineries.
Reliance operates the KG D6 Block with a 66.67% interest, with bp holding the remaining 33.33%.
