OSLO, Norway—Aker BP has made a small oil discovery 5 km west of the Vilje Field in the North Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The Scarabeo 8 semisub drilled well 25/4-15, the first on production license 919, in 119 m of water and 215 km west of Stavanger.
The well intersected a 31.5-m oil column in the Heimdal Formation, including 29 m in a good-quality sandstone reservoir, and a 1.5-m zone of residual oil in deeper Heimdal sand.
Early analysis suggests 0.5 MMcm to 0.8 MMcm recoverable. The licensees will consider a potential coordinated development with other finds nearby.
Scarabeo 8 is now relocating to drill exploration well 25/2-24 S in PL 873 for Aker B.
