HOUSTON – VAALCO Energy has completed two workovers at the Etame field offshore Gabon, lifting overall production by around 1,050 b/d.
The campaign was conducted using a mobile hydraulic workover unit, purchased early this year, which the company claims can mobilize and replace electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) quicker and at lower costs compared to bringing in a drilling rig.
At the EEBOM-2H well the operation involved replacing and upgrading Etame’s longest producing ESP, while in the ET-12H well, the team replaced both upper and lower ESP units and reconfigured the ESP design.
George Maxwell, VAALCO’s CEO, said the purchase puts the company in a better position to react to and prevent ESP failures.
“This allows us to maximize production and even incrementally increase production, which is particularly attractive in the current price environment.”
