LONDON – bp Trinidad and Tobago LLC (bpTT) has delivered first gas from the Matapal project ahead of schedule and under budget.
Matapal is bpTT’s second subsea development. It is a three-well subsea tieback to the Juniper platform, designed to develop gas discovered in 2017 via the Savannah exploration well. Hydrocarbons from Matapal will be transported to the Juniper platform via two 9-km (6-mi) flexible flowlines.
Production is expected to be in the range of 250-350 MMscf/d.
Located about 80 km (50 mi) off the southeast coast of Trinidad, Matapal is approximately 8 km (5 mi) east of Juniper. Water depth is 163 m (535 ft).
Fabrication work began in 2019. The project required modification to the Juniper platform as well as the construction and installation of new subsea equipment. The majority of fabrication work required to adapt the Juniper platform for new production was completed locally, bpTT said.
With 15 offshore production platforms, bpTT is the country’s largest hydrocarbon producer, accounting for about 55% of Trinidad and Tobago’s gas production.
