STOCKHOLM, SwedenLundin Energy has produced first oil from the extended well test (EWT) at the Rolvsnes field in the Norwegian North Sea, the first subsea tieback to the Edvard Grieg platform.

The Rolvsnes field is in license PL338C on the Grieg’s southern side in a weathered and fractured granite basement reservoir.

Drilling and testing of a horizontal appraisal well (16/1-28) during 2018 delivered a flow rate of 7,000 b/d, also demonstrating good reservoir productivity. The appraisal well has been converted to a development well, tied back 3 km (1.86 mi) to the Grieg platform.

Lundin estimates recoverable reserves from Rolvsnes in the range 14-78 MMboe. The EWT is designed to improve understanding of the reservoir properties and connectivity and the field’s likely long-term production performance: if successful, a full-field development could follow, extending plateau production from Grieg.

After compiling sufficient data and production experience, Lundin plans to submit a plan for development and operation by the end of 2022, in order to benefit from the temporary tax cuts introduced by Norway’s government last summer.

A successful test could also de-risk significant the resource potential in other weathered and fractured granite basement reservoirs elsewhere on the Utsira High.
