MUSCAT, Oman – The jackup Shelf Drilling Tenacious has transferred to the location for Masirah Oil’s Zakhera exploration well in block 50 offshore Oman.
Late last week, production started from the third development well on the Yumna oil field, 12 km (7.5 km) to the north.
Yumna 3, which tested 12,984 b/d of oil on natural flow through an 80/64-in. choke, encountered hydrocarbons in 10.4 m (34 ft) of Lower Aruma sandstone.
Porosity was 23.4%, confirming that the good-quality reservoir sand extends to the southeast of Yumna 1, Masirah added.
Since the field came onstream a year ago, reservoir pressure depletion has been around 100 psi (6.9 bar), indicating reliable pressure support from a strong aquifer.
