HOUSTON – Shell has temporarily shut in production at the Perdido spar in the Gulf of Mexico after a subsurface leak in the ExxonMobil-operated Hoover offshore oil pipeline system (HOOPS).
Shell said without access to that pipeline system, and with no other alternatives in the available supply chain system, Perdido has been forced to ramp down.
Exxon has shut in HOOPS.
Moored in 2,450 m (8,038 ft) of water in Alaminos Canyon block 857, the Perdido spar acts as a production hub for the Great White, Tobago, and Silvertip fields. It gathers, processes, and exports oil and gas produced from water depths of around 2,300-2,800 m (7,546-9,186 ft).
The Perdido production hub has the capacity to handle 100,000 b/d of oil and 200 MMcf/d of gas.
