ZOETERMEER, the Netherlands – Neptune Energy has started production from the high-pressure/high-temperature L5a-D4 well on the L5a-D field in the Dutch North Sea.
This is said to be the sector’s deepest producing gas field, 100 km (62 mi) north of Den Helder.
The new well, tied back to the L5a-D platform, was drilled to a depth of 5.5 km (3.4 mi). State-owned EBN is the other partner.
Neptune’s managing director for the Netherlands, Lex de Groot, said: “We continue to seek opportunities to grow our business in the Netherlands and to enhance our offshore gas production.
“Production of Dutch natural gas also contributes directly and indirectly to the Dutch economy and produces 30% lower CO2 emission than imported gas.”
Last October, the company brought onstream the E17a-A6 well, 160 km (99 mi) from Den Helder.
