Tensioners support US West Coast, Mediterranean pipelay

Maritime Developments Ltd. has won a contract to support a horizontal directional drilling project this summer offshore California.

ABERDEEN, UK – Maritime Developments Ltd. (MDL) has won a contract to support a horizontal directional drilling project this summer offshore California.
The company will deploy a 25-metric ton (27.6-ton), two-track tensioner to handle 1.9 km (1.2 mi) of 8-in. steel pipe.
In theMediterranean Sea, the company will use a 110-metric ton (121-ton) tensioner for installation of an umbilical that will connect production wells to an unnamed fixed production platform.
This should ensure safe and efficient handling, MDL said, due to its 5-m (16.4-ft) track length and wide cylindrical track opening for passing of the umbilical end fittings.
