MEDIAS, Romania – OMV Petrom has signed a contract for the delivery of gas from the Black Sea to Romania’s National Transport System (NTS) via the Tuzla entry/exit NTS point.
The contract covers the period September 2026 to September 2042, with an estimated value of EUR276 million ($293 million). The signing followed completion of the incremental capacity booking procedure for the Tuzla entry/exit NTS point.
Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom, said, "We believe the Black Sea holds a significant potential for natural gas and Neptun Deep is a strategic project for OMV Petrom and for Romania. It is at the core of our Strategy 2030 and will play an essential role for Romania's energy security. We are planning the final investment decision for mid-2023, with the production to begin in 2027."
OMV Petrom assumed operatorship from ExxonMobil of the deepwater Neptun Deep block in August 2022. At the end of last year, the company submitted a declaration of commerciality for the field, and it is currently progressing the tendering process, permitting and other technical issues.
Other signatories were Transgaz and SNGN Romgaz. According to Transgaz, the planned EUR478 million ($508 million) project involves constructing a 308.3-km pipeline Tuzla-Podisor to connect the Black Sea available gas to the BRUA corridor, enabling the transmission of gas through existing interconnections. It will also be connected to the existing international gas transmission pipeline T1.
The new line will have two sections: Black Sea Shore – Amzacea (32.4 km, throughput capacity 12 bcm/yr), and Amzacea – Podisor (275.9 km, 9 bcm/yr).
Ion Sterian, Transgaz’ Director General, said: “We are ready to hand over, as of 27 March 2023, the site to the winner of the tender for the execution of the pipeline construction works, which will last until 20-25 April 2023, depending on weather conditions…”
