Abandonment contractor tackles UK wells

ABERDEEN, UK – Marine Subsea UK is preparing a campaign of multi-client well abandonments in the North Sea.

The company will deploy its light well intervention vessel Sarahto plug and abandon a single Category 2.2 and four Category 1 suspended subsea wells, dotted across a large area. Sarah is a Ulstein SX121 DP3 vessel, with a deck capacity of 1,470 cu m, (51,912 cu ft) and onboard equipment including a tower, main crane and two heavy duty workclass ROVs.

The contracts are with operators including DNO, Bayerngas UK, and Tullow. Work should start next month following mobilization from Aberdeen.

Marine Subsea UK will lead the project which involves perforating, cementing and abrasive severing and recovery of the wells. The company will also be responsible for recovery and disposal of residual oil-based muds.
