OSLO, Norway – Norwegian operator AGR has made a natural gas discovery at its Aphrodite-2 well offshore Israel.
The well, drilled to a depth of 5,652 m (18,543 ft) in 1,107 m (5,600 ft) of water, encountered a 15 m (49 ft) gas-bearing layer in lower Miocene sands.
AGR deemed the discovery “significant” based on preliminary test results but said the licensees would not carry out production tests, according to the Israeli business dailyGlobes.
The Aphrodite-2 well is in Israel’s block 370 Ishai prospect, on the country’s offshore border with Cyprus. AGR holds a 5% operating interest in the license, with partners Israel Opportunity Energy Resources (10%), Nammax Oil & Gas (42.5%), Frendum Investments (33.5%) and Daden Investment (9%).
