OSLO, Norway – PGS has issued first data from phase one of the offshore Cyprus Vision data rejuvenation product and has started work on phase two.

The goal of the project is to deliver a 20,000-sq km (7,722-sq mi) contiguous, modern seismic data volume in waters of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EZ). PGS is performing the program in partnership with the Cypriot Ministry for Energy, Commerce and Industry.

Phase one, which started last May, is said to create a seamless 3D seismic volume of 14,750 sq km (5,695 sq mi) for offshore blocks 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Processing and velocity model building are complete, and the raw data is available for viewing.

Final data volumes should be available in June.

Joshua May, PGS’ business development manager Africa, Mediterranean and Middle East, said: "Cyprus has attracted strong industry interest in its context in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.”

He added: “Multiple commercial gas discoveries have been made in recent years, most notably Zohr in Egypt, and similar Cypriot [offshore] discoveries Calypso and Glaucus. There is also the possibility of presalt Miocene sand-hosted reservoirs."

The project’s second phase is now under way: this will add a further 6,000 sq km (2,317 sq mi) of rejuvenated KPSDM data and expand coverage in Blocks 2, 3 and 9.

Results will be matched and merged with data from phase one. The full reprocessed Cyprus Vision volume, delivered on a common grid, will be available in 1Q 2023.
