LONDON – ION Geophysical has completed a 3D seismic survey over license P2428 and surrounding areas in the UK southern North Sea.
Cairn Energy is covering the costs of the acquisition, processing, and related work program following a farm-out agreement earlier this year with Deltic Energy.
The vessel acquired around 680 sq km (126 sq mi) of data, including over the Plymouth Zechstein Reef prospect. ION will process the data to pre-stack depth migration with final results set to be delivered next spring.
Deltic, which now holds a 40% non-operated interest in P2428, describes Plymouth as a large Zechstein carbonate build-up, analogous to the company’s Pensacola prospect in the same region and the Crosgan discovery.
Results from the survey may also confirm further upside on the block associated with the Cupertino and Richmond prospects, potentially influencing future drilling plans.
