OSLO, NorwayPGS has concluded a simultaneous node and streamer acquisition program in the Barents Sea for Lundin Energy and its partners in the PL1083 license.

For the 3,812-sq km (1,472-sq mi) survey, the company deployed an ultra-wide hexa-source configuration towed behind the Sanco Swift, on top of a high-density 3D GeoStreamer spread towed behind the Ramform Hyperion.

The GeoStreamer comprised 18 streamers with 75-m (246-ft) separation and 8,025 m (26,329 ft) long: the 144.45 km (89.8 mi) of towed streamers constituted a new record, PGS said, adding that the 437.5-m (1,435-ft) hexa-source was also the widest source spread towed anywhere to date.

Much of the survey area was also covered with a sparse grid of around 1,000 ocean bottom nodes, and this was the first survey to employ automated free-dropped nodes, the company claimed.

For the seabed deployment, PGS designed a conveyor belt system, installed on a support vessel, and was later able to safely retrieve all the nodes using an ROV.
