ABERDEEN, UK – OEG Offshore will design, manufacture, and supply an A0 fire-rated Zone 2 blast rated variable speed drive (VSD) control module for Point Resources’ Ringhorne platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) commissioned the module which will comply with NORSOK standards, with OEG contracting DNV GL to verify the overall design for the installation.

The module will feature four individual modular sections because of the platform crane’s restricted lift capacity.

All four sub-sections will be installed onto a new cantilever deck offshore and interconnected as a single module, with hookup of essential systems will take place such as air conditioning units, pressurization systems, fire and gas and the VSDs fully integrated.

OEG’s team in Aberdeen will fully outfit the control module and pre-test all systems prior to dismantling and packaging the separate modules for delivery.

In addition, the company will provide technical offshore personnel to assist with the installation, re-assembly, hookup, and commissioning of the module later in the year.

In total seven new VSDs are being installed on the platform. The completed electrical submersible pump VSD control module will be more than 15 m (49 ft) long with 128kW of cooling installed on the roof to control the heat generated from the VSDs.
