bpTT finds more gas offshore Trinidad, approves Ginger tieback

bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has sanctioned the Ginger gas development, discovered a new gas field, and is nearing completion on the Cypre subsea tieback.

bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has sanctioned the Ginger gas development and discovered a new gas field, Frangipani. Both are located offshore Trinidad.

Ginger, the company’s fourth subsea project, will feature subsea wells and subsea trees tied back to bpTT’s Mahogany B platform and will draw on lessons learned from previous subsea developments. First gas should follow in 2027.

The Frangipani exploration well, 50 miles offshore southeast Trinidad in just under 300 ft water depth, encountered numerous stacked gas reservoirs within the same geological structure. bpTT expects to resume drilling on the structure during the fourth quarter.

Frangipani is to the east of the Mahogany field.

Another project in the region nearing completion is bpTT’s Cypre subsea tieback to the Juniper platform. Earlier this year, the four-well Phase 1 drilling program concluded, with Phase 2 drilling scheduled to start later this year.

Much of the subsea infrastructure was installed in the second half of 2024, including the manifold, umbilical, and parts of the flowline and riser system.

The flexible flexible flowlines will take produced gas from Cypre field to the existing Juniper platform and the company’s pipeline network offshore southeast Trinidad. Phase 2 drilling is scheduled to begin later in 2025.
