LONDON – Shell has awarded DNV GL a ‘cross-service’ contract to support the Penguins field redevelopment in the UK northern North Sea.
DNV GL is providing integrated verification and class services for theSevan-design circular FPSO, managed by a team in the company’s UK Oil & Gas division, collaborating with the DNV GL Offshore Class unit in Norway and the DNV GL yard team in China and the Philippines.
The company has been supporting Shell with the project since 2015.
Penguins, discovered in 1974 in 165 m (541 ft) of water, 150 mi (241 km) northeast of the Shetland Islands, was initially developed in 2002 via the Shell/ExxonMobil joint venture.
The project is in the detailed design phase, with DNV GL engaged with design approval and the initial phases of steel cutting. The FPSO is scheduled to leave COOEC’s yard in Qingdao, China during 1Q 2021.
