ABERDEEN-- Total has commissioned Petrofac to develop a 500 MMcf/d gas processing plant on the Shetland Islands for the Laggan/Tormore development, under a $791 million-plus contract.

Petrofac’s Offshore Engineering & Operations (OE&O) business unit will develop the plant, supported by the company’s engineering and construction division. The contract scope covers engineering and procurement, supply, construction, commissioning, and start-up.

The plant, to be located at Sullom Voe, will transport gas from the Laggan and Tormore fields, 125 km (77.7 mi) north-west of the Shetland Islands, via a pipeline to the Total-operated St Fergus Gas terminal north of Aberdeen. First gas from the project is expected in 2Q 2014.

Maroun Semaan, Petrofac’s group COO, commented: “The contract, which has been secured following an extensive project definition and competitive bidding process, forms part of the strategic growth plan for the Offshore Engineering & Operations business and marks our first EPC contract in the UK.”
