Iran commits further funds to South Pars offshore development

Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi has sanctioned investment of more than $26 billion in offshore development projects in the South Pars gas field.

TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi has sanctioned investment of more than $26 billion in offshore development projects in the South Pars gas field. These cover the current Iranian calendar year which started on March 20.
  
Last year, around $20 billion was allocated for South Pars program, according to Pars Oil and Gas Co. Financial Director Touraj Jahanar, with the highest amounts allocated to phases 12, 13, and 22-24.
  
Drilling of the first appraisal well on phases 22, 23, and 24 has been completed at a subsurface depth of 3,300 m (10,827 ft), using the Sina rig.

Farhad Izadjou, director of SP 22, 23, and 24, said “The perforation operations of the first reservoir layer of the appraisal well no. SPD22-08 indicate the presence of gas in layer K4 of the South Pars gas reservoir.”

The volume of gas produced in this reservoir layer is around 20 MMcm/d (706 MMcf/d), he added.

Perforation of the upper layers of the reservoir was due to follow, again for appraisal purposes. Drilling of 38 wells fromfour fixed jacket structures is planned for this section of the project.
