CALGARY, Canada – Britain’s government has approved TAQA Bratani’s development plan for the Cormorant East field in the northern North Sea.
TAQA discovered the structure, formerly known asContender, in October via well 211/21-N94 on block 211/22a.
This penetrated a thick section of oil-bearing sandstones in the Jurassic Brent Tarbert formation, with good porosity and oil saturation. Initially, the field will be produced under primary depletion, with the potential later on to add water injection.
Completion and tie-in of the well to the North Cormorant platform is in progress, with first oil expected before year-end. Following processing on the platform, the oil will be exported to the Sullom Voe terminal on Shetland.
Antrim Energy, which holds a minority interest in the field, is also a partner to Premier Oil in the newly-spudCyclone exploration well in license P1784, block 21/7b.
The semisubmersibleAwilcoWilPhoenix is drilling well 21/07b-4, targeting Tertiary Cromarty sandstones at a drilling depth of 5,000 ft (1,524 m) TVD.
