ZWIJNDRECHT, the Netherlands – GDF SUEZ E&P UK has contracted Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) to provide topsides modules for the Cygnus gas development in the southern North Sea.

Under a frame contract, HFG’s Hartlepool yard in northern England will fabricate and commission four platform topsides, all scheduled for completion during 2014-15.

The anticipated scope amounts to roughly 10,500 tons (9,525 metric tons) of fabrication work. It includes the 3,900-ton (3,538-metric ton) process and utilities (PU) module; two bridges weighing 200 tons (181 metric tons) and 250 tons (226 metric tons); a 250-ton flare; a 1,600-ton (1,451-metric ton) wellhead module; and a 1,500-ton (1,360-metric ton) compression module. The latter will be installed onto the PU module.

All these items are destined for the Cygnus Alpha three bridge-linked complex. The yard will also deliver the 2,800-ton (2,540-metric ton) wellhead module for the separate Cygnus Bravo development, a normally unmanned installation.

Cygnus is 150 km (93 mi) northeast of Easington on the English east coast in a water depth of 23 m (75 ft). Due onstream at end-2015, the gas will be exported via the ETS trunkline to Bacton.
