SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands – SBM Offshore says it has the contract award from Technip to engineer, procure, construct, and integrate a turret mooring system for Shell Development (Australia) Pty Ltd. to use at Prelude field on the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas vessel.
The vessel is to be moored 200 km (124 mi) off the northwest coast of Australia. The turret will be designed to permanently anchor the vessel and allow it to weathervane. This will be the largest turret mooring systems it has ever built, says SBM, and will be more than 30 m (98 ft) in diameter and 100 m (328 ft) tall.
