LONDON – The Clipper South gas field development is now approved by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, reports REW Dea UK. Clipper South is in the North Sea on the UK continental shelf blocks 48/19 and 48/20, 100 km (60 mi) east of Lincolnshire.
Natural gas is in a tight Permian Rotliegend reservoir with 500 bcf in place and will be developed by drilling as many as five extended-reach horizontal wells and doing as many as seven hydraulic frac jobs in each well.
First gas from the Clipper South field is expected in the first half of 2012 and field peak rates are expected to reach a maximum of 100 MMcf/d. Development drilling will commence in the fourth quarter of 2011 Production will be via a new wellhead platform and pipeline connected to the LOGGS offshore complex then on to the Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal in Lincolnshire.
The platform engineering, procurement, and construction are in progress with Heerema Vlissingen BV. The platform will be installed by Seaway Heavy Lifting Contracting Ltd., and the 12-in. and 3-in. pipeline connections (gas and chemical supply respectively) to the LOGGS complex will be installed by Technip UK Ltd.
