RIO DE JANEIRO – Petróleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) has submitted a declaration of commerciality for the Carioca area oil accumulation in presalt Santos basin block BM-S-9 to Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
As part of the process, the partner have suggested the field be renamed Lapa.
Lapa is around 270 km (168 mi) off the coast of São Paulo state in water depths of around 2,140 m (7,021 ft). It contains good-quality, 26º API oil, with recoverable reserves estimated at 459 MMboe.
The first discovery well in the area was drilled in 2007. In total Petrobras and partners BG Group and Repsol Sinopec Brasil drilled five wells and conducted three formation tests and an extended well test. The recent Carioca SW appraisal well results provided more good results, according to BG Group.
Petrobras will submit the field’s development plan for ANP’s approval within the next 180 days.
TheSapinhoá field in the same concession came onstream early this year, and currently produces about 30,000 b/d of oil via from one well through the FPSO Cidade de São Paulo. Its remaining wells will be connected early in 2014.
