TANANGER, Norway – The jacket for ConocoPhillips’s Eldfisk II project is in place at on location in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

Saipem’sS7000 heavy-lift vessel installed the 96-m (315-ft) high, 13,000-metric ton (14,330-ton) structure last month. Due to its size, the jacket was not lifted in the conventional way, but skid-launched from a barge, lifted, and put into position.

This spring the lifting campaign was completed with installation of the final bridge linking the jacket to the rest of the Eldfisk complex.Over the remainder of this season, the drilling template will be installed to allow pre-drilling through the 2/7 S jacket, along with a waste heat recycling unit under construction at the Rosenberg yard in Stavanger.

Eldfisk 2/7 S is an integrated platform with a 154-man accommodation module, wellhead, and process facilities. Kværner is responsible for construction in Stord. Aker Solutions performed engineering services in Fornebu.

Construction started in spring 2012, with parts of the prefabrication assigned to sub-contractors in Finland and Poland. The jacket for 2/7 S was built at the Dragados shipyard in southwest Spain then barged to Eldfisk. This summer 2,000 people will work to complete the topsides in Stord. The various modules and sections will be connected, followed by testing of systems, documentation, and other preparations.

Major modification work is also under way onEldfisk to upgrade and prepare existing facilities and systems for extended service when Eldfisk 2/7 S starts up, with associated new subsea pipelines.

The 2/7 S topsides are expected to be ready to sail to Eldfisk in spring 2014. The new platform will have 40 wells, and will help increase production from the Eldfisk field by 35-45 MMcmoe. The field is the second-largest in the Greater Ekofisk area, and has been in production since 1979.
