LONDON – Xcite Energy Resources (AIM:XEL) has contracted AMEC for engineering support for the Bentley heavy oil field development in the UK northern North Sea.
The two parties will start a front-end engineering and design (FEED) program, and under a newly signed memorandum of understanding they expect to firm up plans for a wider services agreement.
This existing agreement will cover project and program management and controls, further detailed engineering and design, fabrication management, subcontractor management, hook-up and commissioning, operations and maintenance planning and system build, and duty holder services.
Jim Lenton, AMEC’s engineering director for Europe, said: “AMEC’s expertise in delivering challenging and complex developments, including heavy oil fields from concept to operations and maintenance, has been key in the development of our relationship with Xcite. Our relationship with them will see the full spectrum of our capabilities come into play in one coordinated project development.”
Xcite has a 100% interest inBentley, which is one of the UK North Sea’s largest undeveloped oil fields with estimated reserves of 250 MMbbl. It could be in production for more than 35 years.
The company plans various development phases including an initial platform, subsea tiebacks on Bentley North, West and East-South, and a further platform at a later date.
