PERTH, Australia  Woodside Energy continues to award contracts for the deepwater Trion oilfield development, which the regulator Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos approved in August, the company revealed in its latest results statement.

To date it has issued contracts for the drilling rig, FPU and installation of the FSO, subsea trees and control system, subsea flexible piping and riser terminations, and placed equipment orders for umbilical tubing and subsea manifolds.

FEED activities are underway for the FSO, and shipyard engineering is progressing.

In the US Gulf of Mexico, the company is a partner to bp in the Argos platform where production continues to ramp up, with seven wells now online.

Offshore Trinidad, a valve bolt failure on the Angostura gas export platform in July led to a gas release and subsequent emergency shutdown to stop the flow of gas. However, production restarted in August following safety checks and remediation works.

Offshore Senegal, 14 of the 23 planned wells for Phase 1 of the deepwater Sangomar oilfield development have now been completed; pre-commissioning/topsides integration continues on the FPSO in Singapore; and the overall subsea work scope is nearing completion. The project remains on track for first oil in mid-2024.

Offshore Western Australia, installation of the nearshore section of the Scarborough gas field development’s export trunkline has started and fabrication continues of the FPU topsides and hull continued.

In late September the Federal Court ruled that the Commonwealth Environment Plan for the Scarborough offshore seismic survey was invalid. While this has not impacted the target for first LNG cargo in 2026 from the expanding onshore Pluto complex, the decision does highlight the urgent need for reform of Australia’s offshore approvals process, Woodside said, adding that uncertainty over approvals has the potential to add cost and delays to any of the country’s offshore activities.

Elsewhere in the region, Woodside has started removing the Nganhurra riser turret mooring, which will be transported for cleaning and deconstruction ahead of recycling or reuse. The Enfield subsea P&A campaign continues with 17 of the 18 wells now plugged.

In the Bass Strait off southeastern Australia, P&A operations on the Flounder, Bream A and Kingfish A platforms led to six wells being plugged during the third quarter.
