HERZELIA, Israel — Chevron has submitted an updated plan for development of the Aphrodite gas field in offshore Block 12 in the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to partner NewMed Energy, this involves construction of a subsea gas transport pipeline and connections to existing offshore and onshore infrastructure in Egypt.
One prime aim of the updated plan is to reduce the development costs compared with the approved development and production plan, which could advance the start of production.
The 129-Bcm Aphrodite Field is 160 km south of Limassol and 30 km northwest of the Chevron-operated Leviathan Field in the Israeli sector, where the water depth is 1,700 m.
Noble Energy (later acquired by Chevron) discovered Aphrodite with the A-1 well in September 2011. The A-2 appraisal well, drilled in 2013, confirmed a contingent 98-Bcm resource with potentially 26 Bcm of prospective resources.
In November 2019, Cyprus’ government awarded the partners, which include Shell subsidiary BG Cyprus, a 25-year production license for Block 12 with an option to extend the term by another 10 years, along with approval of an outline for development of the reservoir.
