LONDON – SLB entered into a memorandum of understanding with Orcadian in late November to support the Pilot oil field development in the UK central North Sea.
The two parties plan to progress their arrangement to a project agreement for the provision of services for Pilot’s wells.
Orcadian CEO Steve Brown said the company planned 34 development wells.
“Delivering those wells for the least cost with the right completion technologies to maximize sweep of the reservoir is critical," he continued. “Pilot is a key…development project, which should pave the way for the industry to unlock up to 3 Bbbl of viscous oil discoveries on the UK Continental Shelf. By adopting leading technologies, such as polymer flooding and floating wind power, we believe we can deliver these developments with ultra-low emissions…”
In July Orcadian and its appointed well operator Petrofac (which has supported the project’s concept select process since 2018) sought proposals from well service contractors to support Pilot’s well construction program. SLB’s pitch included a strong focus on decarbonization.
Ahead of the definitive project agreement, Orcadian/SLB will progress a process of value optimization, the aim being to deliver a plan for drilling and completion of the wells that can maximize economic recovery while minimizing missions from both the well construction process and operation of the downhole pumps.
Orcadian is also working on an incentive arrangement for the contracting partners to achieve the optimum number of wells for efficient sweep of the reservoir, with the lowest possible emissions.
