VIRUM, Denmark — INEOS and its partners are proceeding with the Solsort West oil and gas field development in the Danish North Sea after securing approval from the Danish Energy Agency.
Maersk Drilling’s harsh-environment Maersk Resolve jackup rig will drill two development wells, with production sent to the INEOS’ Syd Arne offshore complex.
Solsort should start up in fourth-quarter 2023, with the gas expected to account for up to 10% of Denmark’s needs.
In addition, Maersk Resolve will perform interventions on two wells in the Siri cluster, also in the Danish sector. The estimated 322-day program, valued at $34 million, should begin during the first half of next year.
The contract includes options to add drilling or plugging and abandonment work scopes at up to nine additional wells.
Toward the end of this year, another Maersk rig will start pilot phase drilling a carbon injection well for the Greensand carbon capture and storage project in the Danish sector. Maersk Drilling and INEOS are part of the consortium responsible for the development, which aims to store CO2 in the Nini West reservoir.
