HOUSTON – McDermott has brought onstream the U-Field gas development for ONGC’s KG-DWN 98/2 Block project offshore eastern India.
The company is delivering two gas systems for ONGC in the ultra-deepwater region of the Bay of Bengal – U-Field and R-Field – in a consortium with Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering (L&T HE).
The U1-B (GX-06) well is now connected to ONGC’s Vashishtha subsea infrastructure. McDermott deployed the Derrick Barge 30, Derrick Lay Vessel 2000, North Ocean 102 and Lay Vessel 105 (LV105) to install hundreds of miles of pipeline, 37 mi (60 km) of umbilicals and nearly 10 mi (16 km) of flexible pipes.
LV105 also installed the first pipe-in-pipe production flowline in India as part of the campaign
L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering's is manufacturing all the structures for the KG-DWN 98/2 Cluster II development at its modular fabrication facility at Kattupalli (LTHE-MFFK) in Tamil Nadu.
According to McDermott, the U-Field gas manifold, installed in 4,593 ft (1,400 m) and the associated subsea distribution unit are the first subsea production system structures manufactured in India.
In addition, LTHE-MFFK delivered SURF structures and served as a spoolbase for stalk fabrication and reeling of the rigid pipelines, installed to facilitate gas flow from the U-Field wells to the onshore terminal at Odalarevu.
