ATHENS, Greece – Energean expects to produce first gas from the deepwater Karish field development offshore Israel this summer.

At the end of last year, the project was around 92.5% complete, including testing of the telescopic design of the emergency flare stack for the FPSO Energean Power in Singapore. This means the vessel will be able to pass under the Suez Canal bridge, avoiding the need for it to sail around Africa or for the system to be installed in the Mediterranean Sea.

Energean anticipates sail-away from Singapore by the end of this quarter, followed by a four- to five-month period comprising the tow to Israel, hook-up, and commissioning.

Commissioning and testing of mechanical and electrical systems at the yard should allow final commissioning to be performed offshore on arrival in Israeli waters.

Also this summer, the company expects to drill the Karish North development well, following completion of the Athena wildcat in Israel’s offshore block 12 and the Karish Main-04 appraisal well.

The drilling program is due to start in March, and includes options for further exploration wells on the Hermes and Hercules prospects in blocks 31 and 23.

Elsewhere in the region, work on Energean’s NEA/NI development offshore Egypt is on schedule, with first gas expected from one well during the second half of 2022, followed by the remaining three wells in 1H 2023.

Recently the company contracted EDC’s jackup El Qaher-1 for the campaign.

Late last year Energean secured funding, backed by the Greek State, for its Epsilon and Prinos area development offshore western Greece. Work has since re-started on Epsilon which includes the completion of the Lamda platform, tieback to the Prinos complex and completion of three wells pre-drilled in 2019.

First oil from the 53-MMboe Epsilon development should follow in 1H 2023.

Pre-FEED for the Prinos carbon capture and storage project should finish by mid-year.

FEED continues for development of the 5.6-MMboe Irena gas field, 5 km (3.1 mi) north of the Izabela field offshore Croatia, with FID targeted for 4Q 2022. First gas could flow in 4Q 2024.

Energean has terminated its offshore Malta exploration study agreements (blocks 1, 2, and 3 of Area 3), marking its exit from operations in the country.

Finally, the company has received interest from third parties concerning the potential sale of its portfolio of UK offshore assets.
