PERTH, Australia – The drillship Ocean BlackRhino has started drilling the first of 23 planned wells for the Sangomar field development Phase 1 offshore Senegal.

Sangomar operator Woodside Energy, in its latest results statement, said the BlackHawk would join the drilling campaign in mid-2022.

In Dakar, construction and commissioning have finished of support facilities for the project, including a liquid mud plant and workshops, and mobilization has started in relation to contracts for the logistics base, helicopter services, supply vessels, and waste management.

The refit continues of the FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor, with construction of the turret and mooring system and procurement of turbines, generators, piping, and steelwork.

Off Western Australia, Woodside is targeting a final investment decision for the Scarborough gas project later this year. Trunkline bends and deepwater buckle arrestors have been delivered while five subsea trees are due to be dispatched to Australia later in the current quarter.

Long-lead item contracts have been awarded for the floating production platform, with tenders under evaluation for the supply of linepipe for Scarborough’s export trunkline.

At the same time, Woodside is reviewing updated cost estimates for both Scarborough and Pluto Train 2 to take into account higher offshore production capacity (around 20%), increased onshore processing capacity of Scarborough gas through Pluto Train 2, and modifications to Pluto Train 1.

As for the ongoing Greater Western Flank Phase 3 project, development drilling started last month.

Brownfield construction activities continue on the Angel offshore platform, including installation of new production pipework and a radar vessel detection system, which will remove the need for a dedicated standby vessel when the platform is manned, reducing future operating costs.

Installation of subsea equipment for the Pyxsis Hub started in June. This project involves the subsea tieback of the Pyxis, Pluto North and Xena fields to the Pluto offshore platform.
