HOUSTON – BHP has commissioned DNV GL to verify that new infrastructure for the ultra-deepwater Trion field development offshore Mexico complies with local and global safety requirements.
Under the Verification Body and Classification contract, DNV GL will take part in design review activities and site surveillance during construction, commissioning, and installation of the field’s floating production unit (FPU).
The work scope includes ensuring full project compliance with Mexican offshore regulations, NOMs (Official Mexican) standards and BHP’s safety case needs, and conducting various analyses during the project’s front-end engineering design and detailed design phase.
The Trion field is around 19 mi (35 km) south of the US/Mexico median line in the Gulf of Mexico and 112 mi (200 km) from the Mexican coastline. The FPU will be installed in a water depth of 8,200 ft (2,500 m).
BHP has a 60% interest in the development and PEMEX the remaining 40%.
