WEST PERTH, Australia – Carnarvon Petroleum has issued a progress report on planning for the Santos-operated Dorado field development in the sub-Bedout basin offshore Western Australia.

Conceptual design work has finished for the wells, with an emphasis on effective reservoir management and optimized production from the multiple reservoirs.

The partners have received bids for the design, construction, and installation of the 16-slot wellhead platform (WHP) which will be installed in around 90 m (295 ft) water depth. Some of these slots will be available for additional wells and future field tie-ins.

The WHP, which will be connected to Dorado’s FPSO via production flowlines and risers, will not normally be manned in order to reduce opex.

Power, control, and communication will be provided via an umbilical from the FPSO.

Pre-FEED work on the flowlines and umbilical is nearing completion, and the partners are in the final stages of evaluating their preferred contractor.

The FPSO will feature sufficient gas compression capacity to facilitate gas reinjection in order to enhance oil recovery. It will also be designed for disconnections in the event of approaching cyclones, as with other FPSOs across the North West Shelf.
