LONDON – Chariot Oil and Gas has defined an optimized development concept for gas in the Lixus license offshore Morocco.

Reprocessed 3D PSDM seismic data has led to an upgrade of recoverable resources from the Anchois discovery to 1 tcf, also revealing new prospects in the Mio-Pliocene gas play.

Adding these exploration targets could lift the license’s total resource to around 4 tcf.

Reservoir and integrated-asset modeling, leading on to a pre-FEED study, suggest potential for a base plateau production rate of 70 MMcf/d.

According to Chariot, this could provide power generation capacity onshore Morocco of around 600-MW electricity, with 30% lower capex than foreseen under the 2019 feasibility study.

Discussions are under way with a state electricity company, private power generators and industrial users in the domestic Moroccan gas market and through the Mahgreb-Europe pipeline to potential off-takers in European gas markets.

The development capex could be in the $300-500 million range.

Chariot is also in talks with companies looking to participate in the Anchois gas development project.
