DELFT, the Netherlands – Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit has completed the single-lift removal of Total’s 7,800-metric ton (8,598-ton) Tyra West Alpha processing platform topsides in the Danish North Sea.
Earlier this week, the Pioneering Spirit removed the field’s heaviest structure, the 14,000-metric ton (15,432-ton) Tyra East Alpha processing topsides.
Project Manager Pieter Smit said: “Thanks to the vessel’s unique motion compensated topsides lift system, it is a case of move in, lift and move out.”
The two former processing topsides – and lighter modules, removed earlier in the campaign – will be reunited on the quayside at the M.A.R.S. recycling yard in Frederikshavn, Denmark.
After transferring the structures to the cargo barge Iron Lady for load-in to the yard, the Pioneering Spirit will head back out to the Tyra gas field for a third time to remove two flare jackets.
The vessel’s new 5,000-metric ton (5,511-ton) crane is also being deployed on the project for lighter lifts. At the start of the campaign, the aft-mounted crane was used to remove the 1,000-metric ton (1,102-ton) integrated production facilities and 1,400-metric ton (1,543-ton) K modules.
During the two-week campaign, the Pioneering Spirit will lift some 27,000 metric tons (29,762 tons) of steel out of the Tyra gas field and deliver the structures to specialist yards in Denmark and the Netherlands.
Located 140 mi (225 km) off the coast of Esbjerg, the Tyra facilities have been at the core of Denmark’s energy infrastructure for 30 years. However, the field requires redevelopment due to subsidence of the depleted reservoirs, which has caused the platforms to sink. The project combines the removal and modification of old facilities and installation of new facilities.
Allseas’ scope covers engineering, preparation, removal, transportation, load-in to shore, and disposal of the Tyra East Alpha and Tyra West Alpha topsides and jackets, integrated production facilities, monopile and two flare jacket modules.
